Fracture Care

Bones can break easily. A fall, a car accident, or an injury at work can quickly send you to the nearest emergency room. You’ll need to see an orthopedic doctor as soon as possible to make sure your fracture is treated properly. Choose Abilene Sports Medicine & Orthopedics, and you’ll be back to normal in no time.

Common Types of Fractures

Fractures are classified based on how the bone is broken or cracked:

  • Complete Fracture: Bone is broken into separate pieces (clean break)
  • Partial Fracture: Bone is cracked (not completely broken)
  • Open/Compound Fracture: Bone is broken and penetrating the skin

How do I know if it's broken?

Usually, you will know immediately if you've broken a bone. You may hear a snap or cracking sound. The area around the fracture will be tender, swollen, and hot to the touch. A limb may be deformed, or a part of the bone may puncture through the skin.

We have several providers who offer prompt attention for fractures and other traumatic injuries. If you have a broken bone, pulled muscle, or infection, the doctor will order an X-ray and other appropriate imaging tests. You might need an MRI if the X-ray is inconclusive. Once the images are analyzed, the doctor can determine the best course of treatment.
